Taste of Summer at Denio's Market

Image
This weekend Denio's will be hosting its inaugural " Taste of Summer " event, complete with a kids zone and "Salsa Showdown."  This morning on Good Day Sacramento they had a salsa tasting and gave a quick lesson on cutting a mango for mango salsa . Denio's was also on KCRA preparing a strawberry salsa . So if you're free on Saturday, August 4 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. come say hi to me and taste some amazing salsas! Post event story from the Roseville Press Tribune .

Perfect Sky

I took this picture on my way to the gym. It was just minutes after a rare summer thunder storm passed through. The clouds and sun were in perfect alignment at this exact moment.

Behind the Scenes at The Meritage Resort and Spa

Image
I may have only gotten 20 hours of sleep over the course of five nights, but it was totally worth it to spend time with an amazing photographer at one of my favorite places, The Meritage Resort and Spa in Napa . I started off in Lodi at a mini-family reunion that also involved a trip to Fosters Freeze for an ice cream and Rancho San Miguel for lunch, then took the beauitful sunset drive along highway 29 to Napa. We were doing a photo shoot of the new spaces at the resort including new rooms (Bacchus Suite, Presidential Suite, Bordeaux Suite, Vintners Suite, Double Queen, King and Extended King), Crush Ultra Lounge (making it look like night time at 10 in the morning was fun), Blend , the newly refurbished pool including cabanas and fire pits, and a few new courtyards. Of course, I also ate some amazing food , met with reporters from the North Bay Business Journal and Washington Times and got to hang out with my favorite staff members, while meeting a few new ones. Rafting the Middle Fork of the American River with WET River Trips

Image
After seeing pictures from my river rafting trip a few weeks ago on the Lower Fork of the American River with WET River Trips , my aunt decided she had to go when she was in California. With a hearty dinner at Roseville's Yard House Tuesday night we headed out on the Middle Fork of the American River this morning. After a 45 minute drive from Auburn we made it to the starting point of our ride, just past one of the only floating islands in the world. Our boat included my aunt, her two daughters, a French exchange student that was staying with them and a couple from Reno . We started with the Tunnel Chute Rapid , it was crazy, you can see pictures here by Hotshot Images . The rest of the day was slightly calmer, although there were still some fun class three and four rapids, even one part where we got out and walked, while watching our guide go down a waterfall. It was another great day with WET and it was good to be wet, since it was 105 degrees in Sacramento today . H

Ahi Nachos on Good Day Sacramento

Image
Sometimes my job means I get to go in studio and have some fun behind the scenes. Today was no exception. I headed to West Sacramento and the Good Day Sacramento studio to hang out with Chef Mike Collins from The Meritage Resort and Spa . Chef Mike showed Tina Machua how to cook Ahi Nachos (available at Crush Ultra Lounge ) and showed off some other delectable treats including real fruit smoothies and parfaits available from Siena and Blend Cafe , all with ingredients to help people " eat to relieve stress ."

Back to the Bradley Lodge

Image
After a two month break my family finally made it back to the Bradley Lodge . We headed up Friday with my parent's neighbors and enjoyed a relaxing weekend in the mountains with great food (including fresh fruit and vegetables from our gardens), wine and field trips to the the pool , Stanislaus River and transfer station ( five star rating on Yelp ). While we were there I also took the opportunity to try out my new running shoes , running 4.2 miles at 5,100 feet, with 450 feet of vertical climbing was a great test and I think they passed. Later this week I'm heading out with WET River Trips again with my aunt and cousins from Texas along with an exchange student from France , it should be a great time and a fun way to beat the heat.

Fourth of July, Food and Running Shoes

Image
I started the holiday on the Third of July with Happy Hour at Crush 29 with my favorite Happy Hour companions . On the Fourth of July I headed out for a run (to run off the calories consumed at Happy Hour), did some work from home and then headed to a family friend's house for a BBQ celebration. Hamburgers, corn on the cob, potatoes, potato salad and some great appetizers were all consumed in true American fashion. On the Fifth of July it was back to reality, running , the gym , work and for the first time new running shoes, professionally fitted by the people at Fleet Feet Sports . This weekend I am heading to the Bradley Lodge and then Wednesday I'm going rafting on the Middle Fork of the American River !

WET River Trips - South Fork American River

Image
All I can say is today was a good day. About a year ago a friend and I purchased a Groupon for rafting down the South Fork (up to Class III rapids) of the American River . Today we finally went. We had fun, got wet and cannot wait to go on a few other rafting adventures with WET River Trips in the future. After I got home (and since I was already in my swim suit) I quickly washed my car , all those trips to and from Napa made it a little dirty. Since I purchased the CD of pictures, I'm including them all, they cost me money and you deserve to see them all.
